Congratulations to Dr. Anna Strahm on her new paper in Cultural Diversity & Ethnic Minority Psychology! In a study of more than 1,000 U.S.-born and foreign-born Latina women, greater U.S. cultural orientation was linked to higher and more steeply rising diastolic blood pressure during pregnancy, which in turn was associated with less fetal growth. It is the first evidence that blood pressure may help explain why acculturation is linked to lower birth weight.
