Curious about how stress affects the body, and what that means for our health? Dr. Hilmert’s Health Psychology lab is looking for motivated NDSU undergraduates to join our team as research assistants for Spring 2027.

What you’ll do

Research assistants work side by side with our graduate students to run studies on stress, emotion, and health. You’ll learn hands-on research skills, from working with participants and collecting physiological measures like blood pressure and heart rate, to using virtual reality in the lab and managing data. Most of our projects are team efforts, so you’ll be part of a friendly, close-knit group.

Why join?

  • Research experience is crucial if you plan to go to graduate school, and it is highly regarded by employers outside of academia.
  • Assistantships can count toward psychology major requirements through PSYC 493 (credit varies with your time commitment).
  • You can earn a strong letter of recommendation for your portfolio.
  • RAs often go on to present their work at conferences, like our research assistant team at Red River 2026.

Requirements

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • At least 3 hours a week available to be in the lab
  • A two-semester commitment is preferred

How to apply

Fill out the form below and we’ll be in touch to set up a quick 10-minute interview. Spaces are limited, and because most of our projects are group projects, we’ll talk through scheduling once you know your spring classes.
